Silver leaves DoE loans office?
Jonathan Silver has resigned as executive director of the Department of Energy’s loan programme office. Silver has been head of the office since November 2009, and had submitted his resignation to the secretary of state for energy, Stephen Chu, in July, when it became apparent that the office would not receive funding to replace expiring authorisations. Replacing Silver as the office’s head is David Frantz, who ran it before Silver’s arrival, and had worked at Opic before joining the DoE.
While Silver arrived after the closing of the politically contentious $535 million loan guarantee for solar module manufacturer Solyndra, and decided to leave before it became politically contentious, his departure comes at a difficult time for the programme. Congress has followed up not renewing authorisations for the bulk of its programmes with investigations into the Solyndra loan....
